                              Employee of the Month Awards

The Employee of the Month honor is a way to recognize faculty and staff in the College of Health Sciences who have made significant contributions to the College that go beyond "the call of duty" in grantsmanship, scholarship, teaching innovation and service. These individuals are to be commended for their hardwork and dedication.

 as the lead author of a manuscript accepted for publication in a prestigious high impact medical journal.*

Dr. Adedeji Adefuye is the Employee of the Month for May 2007. Dr. Adefuye is recognized for submitting a $358,060 grant to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).

Dr. Adedeji Adefuye and Dr. Titilayo Abiona are the Employees of the Month for April 2007. Drs. Adefuye and Abiona are recognized for submitting a 2 years grant entitled "Social-Cultural Determinants of Heterosexual Behavior of African American Men in Chicago" to the National Institute of Health (NIH) for $428,200 grant.

  • Kudos to Drs. Adedeji Adefuye and Titilayo Abiona for submitting a $428,200 grant to the National Institute of Health (NIH).
  • Congratulations to Professors Leslie Roundtree and Regina Smith for receiving a 4-year, $800,000 grant from the US Department of Education (USDE).
  • Congratualtions to Dr. William Ebomoyi and Professor Monique Germain for presenting at the 16th Annual African American and Latino American Adult Education Research Symposium on April 21, 2007.
  • Professor Melanie Ellexson has completed her doctorate from the University of Indiapolis. Congratulations Dr. Ellexson!
  • Congratulations to Ms. Rukiya Akua for presenting her research at the National Association for African American Studies & Affiliates at the 15th Annual NAAAS Conference in Baton Rouge, LA on February 17, 2007.
  • Congratulations to Ms. Lisa Young for being chosen to serve on the National League for Nursing Accreditation Council (NLNAC) Standards and Criteria Master's Subcommittee.
  • On December 2, 2006, Ms. Ruth Phillips, of the Department of Nursing, participated as a panelist in a symposium hosted by the Pan-African Association in Rogers Park. The event, along with other activities, was held to mark World AIDS Day which is December 1st.
  • Professor Dorcas Williams has completed her doctorate (EdD) from Nova Southeastern University. Congratulations Dr. Williams!
  • Congratulations to Professor Rose Reed-Murry for presenting a workshop at the National Black Nurses Association conference in Florida, August 9-13, 2006.
  • Congratulations to Professor Sarah Austin for presenting her research at the World Occupational Therapy Federation 2006 Congress in Sydney, Australia in July 2006.
  • Professor Melanie Ellexson traveled to Chernivitsi, Ukraine in May 2006. While in the Ukraine, Professor Ellexson provided occupational therapy services to underserved communities. The service learning project was a requirement of her doctoral program at the University of Indianapolis.

Academic Unit ~ Service Unit News

August 2006 -

  • Congratulations to the Department of Nursing Faculty and Staff and the 2006 Department of Nursing graduates. The 2006 graduating class attained a 96% Pass Rate on the NCLEX-RN. This score is above State and National averages.
  • It's Official! IBHE approves the new Dept. of Health Studies and the Bachelor of Science degree programs in Community Health and Pre-Physical Therapy.
  • The Dept. of Occupational Therapy receives seven year accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

March 2005 -

  • The Dept. of Nursing receives eight year accreditation, with a two-year report, from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
